Evening settled quietly over the palace. The bustle of wedding preparations had resumed, at least on the surface. Servants continued moving through the corridors with trays of flowers and lengths of silk. Tailors came and went. Instructions were given. Guest lists were revised. Music drifted faintly from the outer courtyard where rehearsals had begun again.
Life, stubborn as ever, insisted on moving forward. Yet beneath that carefully maintained rhythm, something had changed. The palace had grown quieter. People lowered their voices without realizing it. Laughter faded almost as soon as it appeared. It felt as though the walls themselves were still absorbing everything that had unfolded inside the council chamber that morning.
